Trans Lives Are Sacred

Trans rights are under attack, across the United States, here in Canada, and around the world. These are not isolated incidents. They are part of a growing, coordinated effort to criminalize trans lives, restrict bodily autonomy, and erase gender diversity from public life. In the US, over 900 anti-trans bills have been introduced this year alone. Many have passed into law, targeting access to healthcare, public participation, education, and even legal identity. These efforts are not about protection. They are about supremacy.
Canada is not immune. Several provincial governments are imposing policies that limit access to gender-affirming care and force educators to violate the privacy of trans students. Globally, the UK has curtailed trans healthcare and imposed irrational gender definitions. Uganda has criminalized gender nonconformity. In each case, trans communities face escalating violence, state surveillance, and moral condemnation. These attacks thrive on silence and are strengthened by the complicity of institutions, including faith communities.
For those shaped by Christian faith, this moment is not a test of doctrinal purity. It is a test of faithfulness and love. If we believe in the sacred worth of every person, we cannot look away from policies and rhetoric designed to destroy. Jesus stood with the marginalized, confronted unjust power, and lifted up those cast aside by religious and political systems alike. To stand with trans people today is not to abandon the gospel. It is to embody it!
Trans justice is not a side issue. It is central to the work of collective liberation. Pride is the right time to say this clearly and publicly: Trans lives are sacred. Trans bodies are beloved. And Trans liberation is a demand we must never stop naming, defending, and pursuing together.
