Pride, Faith, & Religion

For too long, faith has been used as a weapon against 2SLGBTQIA+ people. Many of us carry deep wounds from churches that told us we had to choose between who we are and what we believe. Some never return, and that choice is valid. When faith has been a source of violence, stepping away can be an act of self-preservation. But for others, queerness and faith remain deeply connected. And it is a lie to say they cannot coexist. That lie was never about God. It was about power.
Across traditions and generations, queer and trans people have always been part of the story of faith. From affirming churches and queer-led ministries to Indigenous Two-Spirit spiritualities and global movements for inclusive theology, we are reclaiming what was always ours. Faith leaders are preaching good news that centers dignity. Sacred communities are forming around justice, healing, and joy. This is not new. It is a return to the truth that has always been there: love makes room, not rules.
If you have walked away, your path is still holy. And if you remain, know that there are faith communities who will not ask you to choose between your spirit and your self. Pride is a time to reclaim what has been denied. Whether that means leaving harmful religion behind or returning to faith on your own terms, your wholeness is what matters.
