Pride All Year Round

Today is the last day of Pride month, but really, Pride doesn’t end on June 30. We don’t go back in the closet on July 1. We don’t set down the work of justice until next year’s parade. Pride is not a season. It is a way of being in the world. It is the daily practice of telling the truth about who we are, standing with those who are targeted, and fighting for the world we know is possible. The rainbow flags may come down in storefronts, but our resistance does not.

The systems that harm 2SLGBTQIA+ people do not take a break. Neither can our commitment to each other. Staying engaged means more than showing up once a year. It means learning and unlearning. It means supporting queer- and trans-led organizations with time and resources. It means speaking up at school board meetings, town halls, and workplaces. It means protecting queer and trans youth. It means showing up for Black liberation, Indigenous sovereignty, disability justice, immigrant rights, and reproductive freedom, because our struggles are connected.

As Pride month closes, don’t let it be an ending, but a renewal of our promise to each other. The work continues. And it belongs to all of us. Find your way to stay in it. Read and share queer history. Support important work, like The Rainbow Well. Check in on your people. Organize. Protest. Rest. Build. Pride is not a date on the calendar. It is how we live, how we love, and how we keep going.

Happy Pride!
