Pride & Intersex

Intersex people have always existed. Across cultures, histories, and geographies, intersex bodies bear witness to the beautiful diversity of human life. Intersex is an umbrella term for people born with natural variations in sex characteristics- such as chromosomes, hormones, or anatomy- that differ from cultural expectations of what should defines strictly male or female bodies. These variations are not rare, and they are not new. They are a part of the human story.
And yet, many intersex people face systemic harm from the moment they are born. Non-consensual surgeries, medical secrecy, and social stigma have been used to enforce binary norms at the expense of truth and well-being. These practices are not about health. They are about control. About forcing bodies into narrow categories in order to preserve a rigid and harmful idea of what is “normal.” The violence is real, and so is the silence that surrounds it.
Today, we affirm the right of all people to bodily autonomy, to truth, and to care that honours who they are. Intersex justice is queer justice. Pride is not just about who we love, it is about the freedom to live in our bodies without shame, violence, or erasure. Intersex people are not anomalies. They are part of the human family. Their lives challenge us to build a world where difference is not feared, but honoured. Where care means listening. And where every body is worthy.
